Abused dog from Albania finds safety in Raleigh through Freedom Ride Rescue
An Albanian animal shelter’s plea for help for an abused dog led to an international rescue effort that brought the small mixed breed pup to Raleigh on Monday.
“Leka has endured more than any dog ever should,” Freedom Ride Rescue founder Mollie Doll said. “His past includes physical abuse by his former owners. He was kicked, slammed into walls, forced to live in mud and often left without regular food. After that, he survived seven months on the streets.”

Bartoc has been with Freedom Ride Rescue since Christmas Eve. He’s this big, lovable goofball – about 120 pounds of pure sweetness! Yeah, he’s rocking the silver fox look a little bit at 11, but honestly, it just adds to his charm. He’s still got that puppy twinkle in his eye when he’s bouncing around the yard or making new buddies at the dog park.

Rescue Dogs
We are proud to be the crazy dog lovers who skip out on work to transport dogs from all over the state to their excited fosters’ homes … who stay up late searching shelter pages for that next “Freedom Ride” potential …. who volunteer countless hours making rescue a reality!
Provide Medical Care
Freedom Ride Rescue provides all supplies (crates, food, bowls) and gets the animal in for a vet visit (for a spay, neuter and/or vaccines); we’ll also provide flea and heartworm preventatives. Anything and everything to make a happy and healthy pet!
Find A Home
We love, rehabilitate and nurse an unwanted, unloved animal until they prance away with their fur-ever person as they start their most life’s wonderful chapter: the one as a cherished pet.
