N.C. Non-Profit Animal Rescue
Give a Freedom RideIn the rescue world, a “Freedom Ride” is that magical car ride out of an animal shelter for a dog. At first they are nervous, but there is a moment when they realize they are safe …. tongue out, tail wagging, a new chapter for them.
About Us
About Our N.C. Rescue
We are proud to be the crazy dog lovers who skip out on work to transport dogs from all over the state to their excited fosters’ homes; who stay up late searching shelter pages for that next “Freedom Ride” potential; who spend countless hours making rescue a reality!
Freedom Ride Rescue brings together individuals who share a love for dogs and a dream to see a no-kill state. Our foster-based network is in the Raleigh/Clayton, NC, area. We bring in dogs of all ages, sizes and breed mixes. We help to rehabilitate these animals – providing security, love, medical, and behavioral training as needed – until they can be adopted to their “fur-ever” homes.
We are foster based: we have no facility and every one of our adoptable (and not quite ready to be adopted) animals are in homes where families are teaching trust, love, basic manners …. preparing your future dog ready to be the best addition to your family that he can be!
As fosters, we are willing to have our heart break after we love, rehabilitate and nurse an unwanted, unloved animal until they prance away with their fur-ever person – often never looking back – as they start their most life’s wonderful chapter: the one as a cherished pet.
So join our road to making freedom rides happen! We are a wonderful, tight-knit family needing volunteers, fosters, donors – basically caring people willing to help in any way they can!

🚨🚨PUPPY FOSTER NEEDED!!🚨🚨 This sweet little girl was found with no collar and no chip. She is believed to be about 8 weeks old and we think she’s some kind of doodle. Whatever she is, she’s precious, and so sweet to boot! If you can help foster her please email jennifer@freedom-ride.org today!
Freedom Ride needs YOU!
If you`ve ever wanted to get involved, we`d love to have you! There are so many ways you can help our organization and we`d love to tell you about all of them so you can find something that fits what you have to give.
Are you the kind of person who loves talking to anyone and everyone? Do you have a talent for sales? We always need people at our events who can talk and "schmooze" with the public. Your job would be to talk up Freedom Ride and sometimes sell raffle tickets for cool prizes. If this seems like the perfect way for you to help out--apply to volunteer with us!

🚨 REBRAND ALERT 🚨
The artist formerly known as Bad Bunny will hereby be known as BB!
Bad Bunny just wasn’t the vibe for this absolute good girl… so please say hi to BB
This beautiful girl is serving soft, sweet, and soulful—with her plush blonde coat, perfect curl tail, and eyes that will absolutely steal your heart. BB greets everyone with a polite sit and a request for pets (a true lady, honestly).
She’s house-trained, crate-trained, dog-friendly, and happiest soaking up sunny nap spots or hanging with her people. BB is eager to please and just needs a little polishing to shine her brightest ✨
BB is currently undergoing heartworm treatment (don’t worry—FRR covers it all!), and she’s already well on her way to a full, happy life.
If you’re looking for a loving, loyal companion with main character energy… BB is your girl 💕

It’s the perfect mix of horsepower and heart—don’t miss it! Here`s our pit crew of adoptable dogs racing to the event tomorrow!
Meet Mrs. Brisby—a gentle, shy senior who just needs a little time (and love) to shine. Once she feels safe, she’s all about snuggles, quiet companionship, and her beloved squeaky balls 💛
She’s dog-friendly, cat-friendly, and rocking a surprise DNA mix of pittie, shepherd, chow, and a little supermutt magic ✨
All she needs now is a calm, loving home to spend her golden years.
💛 apply to adopt: freedom-ride.org/for-adoption
Senior dogs are the best. They just need a cozy couch and lots of love.
Give Mrs. Brisby her dream of spending her best days with people who see how amazing she is. Apply to meet her. www.freedom-ride.org/for-adoption
🚨 FOSTER NEEDED 🚨No one has stepped up yet for this stunning boy, and we truly can’t believe it. Meet Geno! He’s a one-year-old, 35 lb fluffy corgi mix (we think… but honestly he’s 100% adorable and 100% perfect). Sweet, handsome, and ready for a soft place to land, Geno is just waiting for someone to give him a chance.
And yes — his name is Geno and we are not changing that. Freedom Ride Rescue covers all costs associated with fostering. We just need you to provide a safe, loving temporary home while he waits for his forever family.
Please email jennifer@freedom-ride.org if you’re interested in fostering Geno. We are tagged in too many posts to keep up with comments.
Help us get this perfect boy to safety.
April is National Heartworm Awareness Month ❤️🐶
Heartworm disease is serious, but completely preventable—and unfortunately, it’s also very common here in North Carolina. All it takes is a single mosquito bite to transmit heartworms, which is why keeping your dog on monthly prevention year-round is so important.
The dogs shown here are all currently heartworm positive and either receiving or about to begin treatment. The good news? Heartworm disease is treatable. The hard part? Treatment is long, restrictive, and costs our rescue about $1,000 per dog.
We’re committed to giving every dog the care they need to heal and thrive—but prevention is always the best (and easiest) option.
🐾 Protect your own pets with monthly prevention
🐾 Help us support dogs currently in treatment
🐾 Share to spread awareness
Together, we can keep more tails wagging and fewer hearts hurting ❤️
We kept the fun rolling with our second event of the weekend—and it was a GOOD one 🐾🍻
Pourworks is always a favorite stop for us, and for good reason…the team there is so welcoming and makes every visit feel like home 💛
We had an awesome turnout of both pups and people (paws crossed some perfect matches were made 🤞🐶), and the energy all around was just the best. It may have been a busy weekend for our crew, but it was SO worth it—full of fun, connection, and lots of wagging tails.
Thanks to everyone who came out to support. We love this community!
🐾 FRR Alum Penny has blossomed into an incredible pup, and her family couldn’t be more in love. From the moment she arrived, she brought warmth, laughter, and plenty of personality into their home.
🐶 Penny is obsessed with her big brother Ollie and happiest when she’s right by his side. Their bond is the sweetest to watch.
🦴 True to her Great Pyrenees roots, Penny takes yard patrol very seriously—complete with a few strategic digging projects. When she’s off duty, she’s usually showing off her favorite tug toy and trying to recruit someone to play.
🤍 Penny is also an expert cuddler. If attention is lacking, she’ll gently nudge you with her nose or offer the classic Pyr paw as a reminder.
🎓 She’s picking up on training beautifully and continues to make her family proud.
🌊 Penny is already quite the adventurer—from visiting her local @tastingroom like a social pro to a big beach trip where she couldn’t get enough of the ocean.
❄️ When the February snow arrived, Penny was in her element, fully embracing her role as the household ice queen.
💙 After the loss of their beloved old man Blue, a rescued Pyr/Golden mix, Penny helped bring light back into their home and lift everyone’s hearts.
✨ Her family feels incredibly lucky to have her—and we’re so proud of how far she’s come since being rescued by FRR.
👀 We absolutely love hearing how our alumni are doing! Want to see your alum featured? Share their photos and stories on our alumni page—you could be our next spotlight!
Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever.”
