N.C. Non-Profit Animal Rescue
Give a Freedom RideIn the rescue world, a “Freedom Ride” is that magical car ride out of an animal shelter for a dog. At first they are nervous, but there is a moment when they realize they are safe …. tongue out, tail wagging, a new chapter for them.
About Us
About Our N.C. Rescue
We are proud to be the crazy dog lovers who skip out on work to transport dogs from all over the state to their excited fosters’ homes; who stay up late searching shelter pages for that next “Freedom Ride” potential; who spend countless hours making rescue a reality!
Freedom Ride Rescue brings together individuals who share a love for dogs and a dream to see a no-kill state. Our foster-based network is in the Raleigh/Clayton, NC, area. We bring in dogs of all ages, sizes and breed mixes. We help to rehabilitate these animals – providing security, love, medical, and behavioral training as needed – until they can be adopted to their “fur-ever” homes.
We are foster based: we have no facility and every one of our adoptable (and not quite ready to be adopted) animals are in homes where families are teaching trust, love, basic manners …. preparing your future dog ready to be the best addition to your family that he can be!
As fosters, we are willing to have our heart break after we love, rehabilitate and nurse an unwanted, unloved animal until they prance away with their fur-ever person – often never looking back – as they start their most life’s wonderful chapter: the one as a cherished pet.
So join our road to making freedom rides happen! We are a wonderful, tight-knit family needing volunteers, fosters, donors – basically caring people willing to help in any way they can!

Welcome to FRR`s Home for the Holidays Campaign!
We`ll be showing off every single available dog over the next few weeks, in hopes of getting as many as possible adopted and in their own forever homes for the holidays.
Today we’d like you to meet Otis!
You can find more information about all of our dogs (including Otis) on our website: www.freedom-ride.org/for-adoption. Once you’ve fallen in love with your perfect pooch, fill out an application!
Freedom Ride Rescue believes that pets should not be presents: they are lifelong commitments. Everyone in the family needs to be involved in finding the RIGHT pet to fit the family and everyone needs to be ready for all that comes with a new furry addition. Because of this, Freedom Ride will put a “paws” on adoptions the week of Christmas. We will not be processing applications or finalizing adoptions from December 21-27. (We’ll process any adoptions that get started before then, but will not process new applications during that time).
But we still have time for lots of precious pups to find their people before that! We would love for our dogs to be Home for the Holidays!

🐶 FRR Alum Archie (FKA Stitch) came from a lively litter of eight pups in Chatham County, and his breed mix is just as fun and unique as he is! He’s 35% Poodle, 33.7% Mountain Cur, 12.3% Rat Terrier, and 9.4% Shih Tzu — but to his family, he’s simply 100% good boy. 💯
🐕🦺💛 Archie is a high-energy handful in the very best way, and he’s expected to stay that way! His family has him enrolled in puppy training classes, and they’re always searching for new ways to keep this spirited pup entertained. He loves long walks and greeting every dog and human he meets — he’s never met a stranger!
✨🐾 This sweet love bug enjoys chasing his own tail, playing with other dogs, and exploring the big outside world with endless enthusiasm. He’s also a dedicated chewer who loves sinking his teeth into anything he can get his paws on. But once he finally burns off all that energy, he’s happiest cuddled up on your lap, soaking in all the love.
✂️🐩✨He recently got his very first haircut and proudly strutted around like he knew just how handsome he was.
💙🐾 His family absolutely adores him, and their active, joyful boy brings so much love and laughter into their home!
👀 We absolutely love hearing about how our alumni are doing! Want to see your alum featured? Share their photos and stories on our alumni page—you could be our next spotlight!

It`s been a tough week, but our Freedom Ride Rescue network has been amazing ... we want to thank everyone for the support: from boots on the ground helping with our lost Iko to donations for Niva who went into kidney failure after heartworm treatment: we are humbled by your support.
NIVA: After a week of around the clock care through Falls Village Vet, she`s back with her fosters. Her kidney values are still dangerously unhealthy, but we are all thrilled she`s no longer being hospitalized. They are doing nightly fluids and a very busy medical regime to try to heal her. This was a harsh reaction to her heartworm treatment. PLEASE make sure your cats and dogs are on monthly heartworm prevention YEARROUND in North Carolina: all it takes is one bite from an infected mosquito to give a dog or cat heartworms if they aren`t on prevention. Her current care has cost just over $1800. Donations are appreciated!
IKO: Just days after coming to his foster home, he darted out of his house Saturday morning. We had regular sightings in the mornings and later afternoon -- until Monday morning: nothing since then. A professional tracker was able to find his scent today, but it ended abruptly. We have cameras up and are desperate for a new sighting - but are guardedly optimistic that MAYBE someone has him safe. PLEASE continue to share his post - if he is safe, without a collar or chip, whoever has him won`t know where he belongs!
